The secret is to choose the right size and type from the start, and to maintain them to ensure a long and useful life. When choosing the right tire for you, keep in mind the amount of money you wish to spend as well as the type of terrain that you will be using the tractor on, and the type and size of tire that your tractors manual recommends.

You can purchase lawn tractor tires in a variety of environments. There are many online sights that offer new and used tires, but you cant ensure the quality of these yourself in advance. You can also find them in many major retail outlets, and well and most Tractor dealers and Farm equipment outlets. Most of the time, there is an associate in the store that will be willing to help you choose the correct tires.

Lastly, make sure to maintain your lawn tractor tires so that they give you the most use possible use. Check the tire pressure before every use, making sure that it matches the recommended pressure listed on the side of the tire. This is the number that is followed by the initial PSI (pounds per square inch). Keep your tires clean and well inflated, and they should last their recommended lifetime.

Although it is usually only used during spring months, when garden preparation takes place, the garden cultivator may be the most important piece of equipment to be found in the garden tool shed. The cultivator has many uses in the garden, including turning over soil in preparation for planting, turning in soil amendments, such as compost and other organic matter, or eliminating weeds from areas that are too large for pulling to be practical.

Gas powered cultivators come in several styles and sizes, from 12 inch up to 24 inch or larger, and even mini-cultivators, for areas that are close quarters can be cultivated and kept weed free. Both front and rear tine tillers are available, as well as tillers that can be towed behind a tractor or ATV, for exceptionally large areas. Some models may even feature both forward and reverse, to make turning around in tight spaces and tilling the corners much easier. Accessories that can be attached include: tiller rakes; box scraper blades and row crop tillers to make every spring garden chore easier. Hand operated cultivators are also available for very small garden spaces.

Turning over large plots of soil to prepare a garden bed, turning soil amendments in to prepare soil with needed nutrients to give plants a good start, and bending, kneeling and stooping to remove weeds from even small areas can take a toll on knees, legs and back. Garden cultivators make big garden tasks manageable and save a lot of bending and kneeling. They have the advantage over mowing or weed eating, because weeds that have been cultivated will remain gone for the remainder of the season, where mowing and weed eating must be done repeatedly to keep weeds at bay. Garden cultivators also save time, as the time it takes to cultivate an area is much less than the time it takes to dig the same area.

For gardens large or small, cultivators make the gardener’s job easier. They save time, energy and aches and pains, by tilling soil in preparation for planting or eliminating unwanted weeds. No matter what the garden size, there is a cultivator to do the job right. Garden cultivators may just be a gardener’s best friend.

When I was growing up my family had an old Cub Cadet Garden Tractor that we used mostly for mowing the large lawn at our place and my grand parents. This was a great little tractor, and as I have gotten older I have really come to appreciate the plethora of lawn tractor attachments that are available for this little garden tractor.

A few years ago I purchased an old 1974 Case 444 garden tractor a have since rebuilt the engine and much of the machine. Like the Cub Cadet garden tractor, the Case 444 has many lawn tractor attachments available for it. Mine came with an under belly mower deck and a hydraulic rear tiller.

This is just the start of the lawn tractor attachments that a person can get though. There are snowblowers, tillage tools, log splitters, generators and really you name it that can either be bought or built for this and other lawn tractors.

It is great fun to look around on the internet to see the creativity of people as they are building lawn tractor attachments for these and other lawn tractors.

I found a forum over at yahoo that is full of guys modified and building attachments for the Case 444. There are also forums for the Cub cadet and the Wheel Hors lawn tractors as well as many others I am sure.

There are also many plans available for building attachments for you lawn tractor. One set of plans that looks like a lot of fun to build are a loader and mini backhoe for a garden tractor. While I think the loader could have many practical uses, I rather doubt that a backhoe could be of enough use to justify the work or expense to build. Never-the-less I think it would be great fun to build and play with.
